Best humidor ?
INVEST in a top of the range Humidor...
To be 100% sure to find THE humidor you need, let's go over some important points...
A humidor is good, but what exactly is it?
A humidor is a storage box designed to help maintain a stable humidity level. This is essential for cigars because the tobacco leaves inside will naturally expand and contract depending on the relative humidity of the air around them. When cigars are too dry, they shrivel up and lose their attractive flavour and aroma. They will also burn too quickly, making them difficult to smoke properly. On the other hand, extremely high humidity will lead to mould, rot and even an infestation of tobacco beetles. A humidor can be as small as a travel cigar box or as large as a closet; favored by cigar shops. Whether it is a box, cabinet or cigar humidor the size of a mini fridge, each will have a good seal to maintain the internal temperature and provide a thermostat and hygrometer to help you maintain conditions. In general, small and large humidors work in a similar way to maintain the ideal relative humidity and temperature to keep your cigars moist.
A cigar humidor is usually made of precious wood with a cedar interior (more on this later). It is a magnificent luxury object, which allows to keep your precious cigars in an optimal and PRIMORITY way.
But that's not all...
Indeed, thanks to their revolutionary system called : hygrometric system, these cellars are becoming REALLY mandatory. To put it simply, this little system regulates the air and the ambient humidity in a box. And it is thanks to this system that your cigars will not rot and will be
In the best cigar humidors, we find an interior made of cedar wood.
Why is this so?
Spanish cedar is a traditional choice for humidor interiors. Some humidors have cedar lining on the walls, while others use Spanish cedar wood for the shelves and/or drawers inside. Like a cedar wardrobe, Spanish cedar cellars repel insects and protect the contents from rotting. This wood helps reduce the possibility of tobacco beetle infestations and also reduces the growth of mould and mildew. Spanish cedar also has absorbent qualities, which allow it to absorb and release water to help keep conditions evenly moist inside the cellar.
With these qualities, it's no wonder that Spanish cedar has been the ultimate wood of choice for humidors for hundreds of years. Because of its place of honour in the hearts of cigar lovers, many people also prefer the flavour that cedar imparts to cigars. If you plan to age your cigars without their wrappers, they will absorb some of the smell and flavour of cedar - an extra layer of aroma that many people find highly desirable.
Great, isn't it?
To be sure that your humidor is really good you should also make sure of several very important criteria :
- Your humidor must be completely airtight; that is, a closed lid that perfectly covers the cedar box.
- The humidor should also be as airtight as possible, so favour solid wooden humidors that are thick enough so that nothing can interfere with your cigars
- You should also make sure that the humidor is equipped with a humidification system and a hygrometer to measure and check the humidity. Rest assured, on Gentleman Lounge all our humidors are without exception equipped with the latest generation of humidification systems.
- Finally, as explained above, you must absolutely choose a humidor with a cedar wood veneer interior. This criterion is the most important in the search for a good humidor. If the manufacturer does not provide you with the information and details concerning the characteristics of a cigar box, contact him because it is essential to invest in a safe value.
If all these characteristics are present, then you can invest in a cellar that will serve you for decades (or even generations if the cellar is truly exceptional). We often talk to our clients about investing in humidors.

Cigar humidor how it works
A good humidor has everything you need to keep your cigars in good conditions. More than just a box, a high quality humidor has several important parts to ensure a perfect climate inside.
The humidifier :
The most important part of a humidor is its humidification system. This can be simple or complex, depending on the size and quality of the cellar. The humidifier adds moisture to the humidor so that your cigars stay plump and burn slowly. Good humidity also helps preserve the essential oils, which provide the flavour and aroma you expect from your favourite cigars. In general, your goal is to keep your humidor at 70% relative humidity for optimal storage conditions. To do this, your humidor needs a water source. There are several ways to introduce moisture into the cellar, including the following:
- Sponges : The simplest humidifier of all is a sponge soaked in distilled water. This will release moisture into your cellar, although it can be difficult to maintain the humidity level even with a low-tech humidifier element. Distilled water is crucial to avoid introducing minerals and mould into your cellar.
- Floral foam : These green foam blocks are often used to hold flower stems in fancy floral arrangements while providing contained moisture to a bouquet. They hold a lot of water and release it gradually, but they also absorb cigar odours and will need replacing about once a year. A foam humidifier works best with propylene glycol rather than water, as it will automatically maintain 70% relative humidity so you don't have to worry about excess moisture being released.
- Crystal Gel : These small balls are designed to hold up to 500 times their weight in water, which they then release into the atmosphere of your humidor to keep cigars moist. They are pre-treated with propylene glycol to help release the water slowly, but this compound will eventually dissipate and become ineffective after a year or two. You can soak the crystal gel in distilled water to activate it.
- Silica beads : These are the same little beads that you find in packages when you buy shoes. Silica gel is excellent at absorbing excess moisture, so it is a good choice for humidors in hot, humid climates. If you live in the Colorado Rockies or some other arid environment, they will dry out too quickly to be useful.
- Humidipaks : These special humidors are wrapped in a membrane that allows water to be absorbed or expelled to keep your humidor at a specific relative humidity level. You can even choose the bag designed to maintain your ideal humidity at 70%, or a higher or lower value if you wish. Although convenient, they should be replaced every few months.
- Electronic humidifiers : An electronic humidifier is a small machine that will add moisture to a high quality in your humidor. You will need to keep it filled with distilled water, but the machine will do the rest, sensing humidity levels and adding moisture to the air stream as needed.
Maintaining your humidor :
In order for your humidor (or future humidor) to keep its splendour for as long as possible, here are a few simple maintenance tips to implement:
- We advise you not to put the humidor in prolonged contact with water (unless otherwise indicated, e.g.: waterproof for 5 minutes) ...
- Avoid putting the wood of the humidor in contact with any kind of chemical product...
- To clean your humidor, preferably use a microfibre cloth or a specialised cleaning product (e.g. turpentine oil) ...
- Keep away from heat sources
- Clean the varnished surface with a cloth impregnated with alcohol diluted with water or with a glass cleaner
- Never dampen the sides of the case with a sponge or cloth
